SAXLINGHAM NETHERGATE
THE GREEN
(north side)
Green Farmhouse

II

Former farmhouse. Late C16 with thorough late C20 refurbishment. Rendered
timber frame with pantiled roof. Lobby entrance type plan. 2 storeys with
attic. Varied fenestration mainly late C20 3-light casements with horizontal
glazing bars. However, 2 surviving original windows with hollow chamfered
mullions and one 3-light C18 window with metal casement and horizontal glazing
bars inserted into an originally mullioned frame. Front door opposite axial
stack. Rebuilt winding stair to entrance side of stack in original position.
Timbers of heavy scantling with wide chamfers and simple stepped stops.
Moulded corbels for principal beams. Roof rebuilt; however, one queen post
truss to north of stack and one clasped purlin truss to south survive; thus
first floor room to north of stack originally open to roof.
