4/18 Martham Ferry

Floating swing bridge. Early 1920's replacing bridge of C19. Concrete, steel
and timber. Concrete abutments on north and south side of River Thurne,
rebated to allow bedding of floating platform. On north bank is a steel
ratchet winch, on the south a steel pivot post. From pivot post a linking
girder connects with floating platform. Platform is of grid construction
decked with timber planking. Under planking are 2 semi-circular steel floats,
one each side. Steel uprights carry timber balustrading to form protective
handrail on either side of deck. Steel chain links platform with winch on
north bank of river.
