carriage house approx 50
yards north-west of
Capheaton Hall


Walled garden and carriage house. C18, carriage house 1825. Ashlar and brick
in English garden wall bond. Graduated Lakeland slate roof.

Long high brick-lined walls on north, east and west sides. Each has flat coping
and a boarded door in segmental-arched opening. Another wall, slightly lower,
with a large stone urn at the end, runs south from the north wall and divides
the garden into two.

Carriagehouse in south-east corner has 2 segmental arches with boarded double
doors, and a hipped roof. Right of this are square corniced gate piers with
ball finials.
