7/71 Barn and stable approx. 30m.
26/03/86 NE of Upper Woods Farmhouse
Barn and stable. Barn probably early C18; stable late C18/early C19. Coursed
limestone rubble with squared quoins; some weatherboarded timber framing;
corrugated-iron and Welsh-slate roofs. Barn has a 4-bay plan, extended by stable
range. Barn front has full-height doors to left of centre and is weatherboarded
in the top third of the wall; gable walls are stone except for a small section
near the apex. Rear is similar to front with opposed doors. Stable range, of one
storey plus loft, has a shallow-pitched slated roof, hipped to right. Front has
2 doors, 2 small window openings, and a loft door. Interior: barn has a
butt-purlin roof with ties, collars and raking struts to the trusses, plus
arched braces from short posts. Included for group value.
