Description

SP4631 DEDDINGTON HUDSON STREET
(South side)
8/183 Priory Dene and No.3
II
2 houses. Circa 1830, possibly with earlier origins. Brick in flemish bond with
limestone-ashlar dressings; Welsh-slate roofs with brick gable stacks. 2-unit
plans. 2 storeys and 3 storeys. Lower 2-window front of No.3, to left, has the
entrance set to left of centre with a 4-panel door in a moulded arched frame
below an overlight. Large 2-light windows have elaborate Gothick metal
casements, the top sections with intersecting tracery set with coloured glass,
the lower sections with clear octagonal panes and small square intermediate
quarries in coloured glass; some of the large panes are hinged as opening
lights. All openings have ashlar flat arches with chamfered rusticated quoins.
Priory Dene is similar but has 3-light ground-floor casements flanking a
Tudor-arched ribbed door; the second floor has one small 2-light casement, the
opening light of which has a decorative border. Both houses have roofs of
moderate pitch rising from brick dentil eaves courses. Interiors not inspected.
