9/189 Garden wall, fernhouse,
24/10/51 archway and gateway approx.
20m. NE of Mapledurham House

GV II*

Garden wall C17, with probably early C18 archway and early C18 gateway, and mid
C18 fernhouse. Red brick with grey brick diaper pattern to wall. Rubbed brick
piers with carved panels and stone swagged finials to archway with segmental
arch to centre with concave sided brick pediment above with stone acorn finials
to sides and stone case finial to centre. Grey brick with red brick dressings to
piers of gateway with carved stone tops with ball finials and wrought iron gates
to centre with armorial bearings to overthrow. Banded flint and red brick to
fernhouse with 3 Gothick Y-tracery windows. Forms an important part of the group
of garden walls round Mapledurham House (q.v.).
