5/21 Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive)
Row of 3 cottages. Late C16/early C17 (No.1) and graffito dated 1756 (Nos 2 &
3). Uncoursed chalk and sarsen rubble, on sarsen base and mid-C18 random bond
brick to No 3; thatched roof; brick stacks: No. 1 built as 1-bay timber framed
cottage, the chalk walling replacing the timber frame c.1756. No. 1 of 2-unit
plan, Nos 2 & 3 much altered but probably 2-unit with fireplace, adjoining
staircase, and gable with C20 doors to each cottage. 1 1/2-storey, 7-window
range, under timber lintels except original 1st floor window-frames with hinges
for shutters to front rear dormers of No. 2; gabled and half-hipped roof;
brick ridge and end stacks. Interior: No.1 has ovolo moulded beam to right &
No.2 has C18 planked doors. No 2 & 3 have C20 rear extensions and No 3 has C20
lean-to extension at front.
