SU39SE (West side)
1/17 Old Compton


Farmhouse, now house. Late C16/early C17, with left gabled bay of possibly
earlier range, and late C17 one-bay block to right. Roughcast over timber frame
to right; coursed limestone rubble left block; thatched roof; brick stack.
L-plan. One storey and attic; 4-window range. C20 door and casements. C20
two-storey extension in similar style and materials to rear left. Interior:
Chamfered beams throughout, with chamfered bressumers over open stone
fireplaces. Square timber framing exposed in right side wall of original front
range. 2-bay queen-post roof with clasped purlins to right of stack. Carved
brackets to chamfered beam in right extension.
