Circa 1830. Built by John Smalman for himself and originally called Morf
Mount. Mock fortalice, an example of the Oxford Gaol type. Red sandstone
and brick; 4 storeys; embattled throughout; 4 Gothick glazed windows to
facade; square tower of 5 stages; machiolations, arrow slits, etc; curtain
walls with corner bastions, etc; earth ramparts; cestellated outbuildings.
Interior characteristic with stone tunnel staircase approach, ribbed ceilings,
oak doors with applied tracery and oak well stair with brass rod balusters.
