1726. Architect, Smith of Warwick. A Georgian mansion in a landscaped
park, built for Henry Davenport. Consists of a rectangular centre block
with four detached office wings connected by curved screen walls. Red
brick; stone plinth, rusticated quoins, modillioned cornice, and 4 ornamental
parapet urns; 2 storeys plus attic; 9 sash windows in moulded stone architrave
surrounds, those on ground floor having flat entablatures. Imposing centre
porch; fluted Ionic columns in antis; cornice balustraded parapet; straight
flight of steps with balustrade sides. Garden elevation similar but
with pedimented doorway and no porch. Office wings; 2 storeys; 5 sash
windows; steep hipped slate roofs surmounted by cupolas; brick screen
walls with rusticated pilasters. An impressive symmetrical design.
