SJ 2929 NW OSWESTRY C.P ALBION HILL (south side)

14/6 Griffin Inn
House, now inn. Mid-C18 re-fronting of C17 building with later additions
and alterations. Roughcast brick and painted ashlar facing to ground
floor with chamfered angle quoins conceals timber frame, slate roof with
prominent reddish brown brick ridge stack slightly to right of centre.
2 storeys, moulded wooden eaves cornice and moulded stone cill band;
3-window front, mid-C19 four-paned sashes in flush-framed moulded
surrounds with projecting moulded keystones,similar lintels to blocked
openings on ground floor to left and right of central entrance with
C20 panelled door. 2-storey red brick range at right-angles to rear
on left has two 16-paned glazing bar sashes with segmental heads and
one 3-light leaded casement, tall brick ridge stack. Interior: timber
frame (square panels) and chamfered ceiling beams exposed to ground-floor
front rooms; rear range also has square panels to outer walls, entirely
re-built after fire c. 1980; re-built inglenook fireplace at junction
between ranges.
