Farmhouse. C17 with early C18 and C19 additions, and later alterations.
Timber framed with brick additions; plain tile roofs; brick stacks.
L-shaped C17 house of 2-bay main range aligned east-west with central
stack and wing projecting from west side of north front aligned north-
south. Two C18 parallel ranges of unequal length aligned north-south,
one to east end of main range projecting north and one projecting from
east side of north front; C19 extensions to west end of house and to
north end of its projecting wing. Two C18 gabled wings to left with
coped verges on shaped kneelers and with ball finials, triple gable of
C17 wing to centre with low C19 gabled extension projecting from left
hand side of it, gabled C19 wing to right. C18 wings: 2 storeys and
attic with chamfered ashlar quoins and moulded bands forming continuous
dripstones to the windows, attic storey roughcast; 4 bays, C20 casements
with brick flat arches and shaped keystones, those to ground floor left,
first floor left of centre, and attic right are blocked, the first floor
one with small casement inserted, windows to right hand wing are irregular
owing to the position of the staircase inside, small inserted window to
ground floor right, window at mezzanine level to right, breaking through
the dripstone but having its own hood mould, small window directly above;
blind oval oculus to each gable. C20 half-glazed door to right of centre
with segmental head but retaining lintel and keystone of original
opening, C19/C20 glazed and gabled porh. C17 wing: 2 storeys with
triple timber framed gables, the left hand wing is framed with decorative
trefoil and quatrefoils; one window to ground and first floor right,
C20 casements; C19 single-storey gabled projection to left has small
casement to right side and central integral end stack. C19 wing: 2
storeys; one bay, C20 casements, circular window to ground floor right.
Interior: Early C18 dog-leg staircase with turned balusters; close
studded timber framed walls. A substantial farmhouse of considerable
character with an interesting building history.
