TM 16 SW
2/177 Mill House

House, early C16, probably with alterations of later C16. 1 storey and
attics. Timber-framed and roughcast. Half-hipped thatched roof with eyebrow
casement dormers. Axial C17/C18 chimney of red brick. Small-pane C19 and C20
casements. Boarded entrance door. Unmoulded framing fully exposed and quite
complete: arch wind-braced studwork, crownpost roof with square posts and
plank braces above the original right-hand section. The plan form is unusual;
the original house was probably of 3-cell cross-entry form with the service
cell to right. In later C16 another cell was added to left, and another
cross-entry formed (the rear doorway with 3-centred arch remains); the present
chimney was probably inserted at that time.
