TM 27 SE

9/49 The King's Head


Public house. C16, in 2 phases; extended to left in C18. Timber framed and
plastered, the facade lined to imitate ashlar. Thatched roof. 2 storeys. 2-
cell form. 3 windows, C18 small-paned casements. Boarded entrance door.
Internal stack. Remains of external stack against right gable end. Bar area
largely unaltered since C19, with high-backed bench seating; small fireplace
with hearth crane. On the upper floor some C18 panelled partitions and
matching doors, all with painted oak graining. Only a small amount of the
structure is exposed. A valuable example of an unmodernised public house.
