Pair of cottages; Public House known as The Retreat, until mid C20. Built mid
C16 as a 2-cell end-chimney house; extended to right in late C17/early C18.
One storey and attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Thatched roof with C19
external chimneys at both gables. 3 eyebrow casement dormers. Mid C20
casements, some with leaded lights. C20 boarded entrance doors to both
cottages. Heavy unchamfered floor joists and arch windbraced studding exposed
in earlier section. Roof probably of coupled-rafter form. Major remodelling
of c.1970. Until mid C20, a range probably of C16 or C17 stood at the north
end, attached corner-to-corner.
