2/55 and 3/55 Gates, gate piers and
- boundary wall, 10m south
of Ashfield Lodge
Gates, gatepiers and boundary wall, early C19. Gate piers of gault brick,
boundary wall in red brick: all in Flemish bond. Piers about O.7m square and
2.5m high: limestone cappings and ball finials; a pair of piers either side of
the carriage gateway (blocked 1987 in gault brick walling). To left is a
further pier at a distance of about lm; perhaps once for a pedestrian gateway,
but this opening is blocked by old gault brick walling. Weathered wall-head
to red brick walling, with half-round copings. Near the gateway the walling
is about 2m high: to left it extends for about 40m, dropping in stages to
about 1.5m; to right it extends for about loom at full height. Wrought iron
carriageway gates remain in position at blocked main gateway.
