CAVENDISH
Colt's Hall

II
Originally an old Manor House of the De Greys, later in the C16 it passed to Sir George Colt. In tle early C19 it was refronted and altered when all but a small part of the original building was obliterated. The present building is early C19 white brick but it may incorporate some of the earlier frame. Two storeys. Four window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in flush cased frames. The ground storey has a tall three-light bay window at the east end. The doorway has a Tuscan portico with plain columns and a cornice. Roof tiled, gabled, with ornamental bargeboards and a modillion eaves soffit. A lower wing extends at the west end with grouped shafted chimney stacks, a survival from the earlier house.
