4/55 The Thatched Cottage

House, C17, lobby entrance plan, with early C19 alterations and additions at
the north end in the Gothick manner. 2 storeys, 3 windows. Timber-framed,
rendered with herringbone pargetting, thatched roof. 2- and 3-light windows
under square hood-moulds, each light having arched head and wrought iron
diamond and hexagon panes. Gabled entrance porch with carved bargeboards and
spike finial. Nail-head ornamented panelled entrance door with arched head
and square hood-mould. Plaque inscribed TRG. Good example of a cottage
remodelled in the Gothick taste for Thomas Gage of Hengrave Hall.
