Description

1. TIDE MILL QUAY
1852 Tide Mill

TM 2748 3/313 25.1.51.

I

2.
A water mill existed in the C12 as recorded in an early charter when
Baldwin de Ufford granted the tithes of the mill to the Austin Canons
of Woodbridge Priory. In 1532 it is on record that the Canons complained
of the cost of upkeep. At the Dissolution in 1564, the mill was granted
to Thomas Seckford. The present structure, which probably dates back
to the C17 is 5 storey with mansard roof, timber-framed, now with
corrugated iron sheeting. The internal mechanism has been modernised
from time to time, and was recently in working order and used. NMR photo.
