Pigeons Public


Public house. Circa 1918 in late C17 style. Timber and whitewashed render upper
floors over red-orange brick on ground floor; plain tiled roof. Three storeys
and attics over cellar with corbelled stack to right end. Modillioned eaves
cornice with modillioned pediment above broken into by pedimented timber dormer
containing leaded-casement under round-arched and keystoned head. Prominent rain-
water heads and downpipes flank first and second floors. Large curved oriel window
rising through the first and second floors across the front with the leaded wood-
framed glazing based on the Swallows House, Ipswich; cornice hoods over on both
second and first floors. Continuous wood framed glazing across the ground floor
with flanking doors in recessed to ends. An imposing building of some quality
included for group value at the junction of High Street and North Street.
