5/2 Old Town Farmhouse

Former farmhouse. C16/C17 origins, with late C18/early C19 and mid/late C19
alterations and additions. Regular coursed ironstone, much patched with brick.
Right range has traces of timber framing, refaced or rebuilt in late C18/early
C19 Flemish bond red brick. Some early C17 English bond thin red brick to garden
front and rear. Some lias patching to rear. Concrete tile roofs. Ridge stack of
thin bricks; right end stack of C18/C19 brick. Irregular 4-unit plan. 2 storeys
and attic; 3-window range. Main front to garden. 2-window right range has
moulded 6-panelled door and overlight with glazing bars. 3-light wood and iron
mullioned and transomed ground floor windows and first floor casements have
horizontal glazing bars. Ground floor openings have brick segmental arches;
first floor has painted wood lintels. Timber post on left. Old brickwork with
stone quoins beyond; blocked first-floor chamfered stone single light. 2-light
roof dormers have horizontal glazing bar. C16/early C17 stack of 3
diagonally-set square shafts. Taller left range. Mid/late C19 cross windows on
right have horizontal glazing bar and brick segmental arches. Two C20 ground
floor lights. Similar 2-window left return side. Main entrance has stable door.
Cross windows. Blocked attic window. Right return side mainly mid/late C19.
Full-height staircase window. 2-light casements with glazing bars. Chamfered
block surrounds. Rear irregular. One storey and attic left range has plank door.
2-light leaded casement. Half-dormer. C19 brick arch to recessed Tudor-arched
6-panelled door. Staircase projection on right has small 2-light chamfered
mullioned window and string course. C19 cross window. Right return side has
brick arched recess. Chamfered first floor light. C19 first floor window on
right. Interior noted as having 2 open fireplaces. Chamfered ceiling beams. C19
ring-leg staircase in staircase projection. Remains of stud partition.
