5/73 St Katherine's Lodge
Sexton's cottage, for Ailesbury Estate. c1875. Patterned tuck-
pointed brickwork with Bath stone quoins and dressings. Slate
roof, some courses round-tailed. Two-storey, L-plan, extended to
T-plan c1970 in character and conservatory in angle. Original door
with shouldered stone head, now window. Stone mullioned windows
and stone strings. Perforated shaped bargeboards with turned
pendants. W.H. Hudson, novelist and naturalist, 1841-1922 stayed
here in 1890's. A good example of the Ailesbury Estate architecture.
