7/259 Brimslade and Cadley locks,
bridges and short pound

GV II

Brimslade lock and bridge, with short pound to Cadley lock and bridge. c1810.
By John Rennie for Kennet and Avon Canal. Each bridge with bu;l-nosed 13in arch, 2-course
string and brick parapet with stone half-round copings. Brimslade
bridge has stone end piers and parapet partly in blue brick, and
both bridges have lozenge cast iron GWR restriction signs of 4/6
tons, held on bull-headed cast iron stanchions. Locks of blue
brick with stone copings recessed to take restored timber gates.
Hydraulic paddles to upper gates, cast iron ratchet paddles to
lower gates. The short pound links both locks and forms a group
of industrial archaeological interest.
