Anglican parish church. C12, C13 and 1858-63 by William
Butterfield. Limestone rubble, coursed square stone and some
ashlar. Stone slate roof. Nave, west tower, transepts and chancel.
C12 south door in C19 porch, chevron arch with ball decorated outer
hood and chevroned columns. Plain tympanum with cambered soffite.
Nave windows 2 and 3-light intersecting tracery, restored C19.
Transepts and chancel all C19, 2-light windows in C14 style, east
window of 3 lights. Lower of 4 stages, lower of 3 stages early C13
with small lancets and shouldered door, also restored C19.
Pilaster buttresses, but later angle buttress in SW corner with
sundial at head. Top stage crenellated with 2-light belfry
openings and gargoyles.
Interior: Nave of 4 bays. Late C12 tower and chancel arches of 2
orders with ball and billet hoods. Nook shafts only to chancel
arch. Simple round chamfered arches to transepts. C19 open timber
roof. Chancel by Butterfield, with central arch dividing off
sanctuary which has closed spaced transverse arches. Wall tiling.
Fittings: Font, plain C19. Pulpit C19 oak, openwork. Chancel
fittings all C19. Nave and transept pews C17 panelled oak, cut
down in C19. Glass: East window by Kempe and Tower, 1911.
Transepts glass, mid C19. No monuments.
