4/60 The Old House
Detached house. Early C18 with additions mid-C18. Flemish bond
brick to early C18 part, with flint and stone plinth, English bond
to mid-C18 part on right, tiled roof, brick stacks. L-plan. 2-
storey, 6-window front. Double doors under segmental hood on
elaborately carved wooden brackets to right, right of doorway are
two 4-pane sashes, to left is 4-pane sash and early C18 part has
C20 metal casements and glazed door; this part has lozenge
diapering in brickwork. First floor has C20 metal casements to
left, four 4-pane sashes to right with dentilled brick eaves. One
flat-headed dormer has casement. Left return has rendered external
stack. Right return has single fixed window to attic. To rear is
C18 outshut with two half-glazed doors and sashes with segmental-
arched heads, to left is 2-storey mid-C19 extension with sashes,
Early C18 part has C20 metal casements.
Interior; Early C18 former cottage has chamfered beams with ogee
stops. Mid C18 part has newel stairs with turned balusters and
moulded dado rail, dining room has late C18 moulded ceiling cornice
and frieze. First floor has doors with fielded panels, coved
ceiling cornice and eared fireplace surround with cornice.
