15/37 Bank Heads East and
House, cottage and barn under 1 roof, now house and barn. Dated 1688.
Rubble with crude quoins and chamfered ashlar dressings to openings,
stone slate roof. House has 2 first floor windows. Central quoined
doorway has inscribed on lintel ' RW CP ', weather course over
GW 1688 TW
lintel, boarded door. Fire window at left end. Window on right of door
is small and square, containing a fixed frame with glazing bars. Other
windows have been raised in height: ground floor left has fixed frame
with glazing bars, 16 panes; those on first floor have unequally hung
sashes with glazing bars. Kneeler to right, end stack left. Former
cottage on left has 1 bay of windows in brownish sandstone quoined
surrounds, probably recently contrived, with sash with glazing bars on
ground floor and C20 casement on first floor, plus 4-panel C20 door on
left. Rear elevation of house has projecting through-stones and narrow
turret formerly containing stairs. Right gable end has a single-light
chamfered window on each floor. Interior: contemporary fireplace at
left side, stone stairs at right end. Barn added to left in 2 stages,
first section with ground floor boarded door and first floor shuttered
opening, then cart-shed with double doors. 'NYCVBSG Report', No 194.
