House. Late C16 or early C17. Rubble, stone slate roof. 2 storeys; 3 bays
with 2-storey, 2-bay outshut on west side. West front: quoins to left; to
left, on each floor a C20 casement window; outshut has 2 square windows in
flush ashlar surrounds to ground floor, one C20 window and one surround of
2-light double-chamfered mullion window above, and to left return a part-
glazed 4-panel door in chamfered ashlar surround to internal porch, and
above it a 4-pane fixed-light window in chamfered surround; main range has
ovolo-shaped kneelers, ashlar coping and end stacks, that to left a very
large, stepped external stack. Inside porch, original main doorway, with
chamfered ashlar surround with triangular soffit to lintel. The building
was an inn, the Pig and Whistle, when the main road from Richmond followed
the line of the present track leading past Holme Garth out of the village to
the south-east, and there are blocked cellars.
