SK69SE BAWTRY WHARF STREET (south side) 10/50 No 4 (Leigh House) 5th June 1968 GV II House. Early C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical facade. Plinth. Central doorway has wide 6-panelled door and fanlight with radial glazing bars in wooden doorcase having reeded pilasters sunken spandrels and cornice. Outer bays have bow windows each with projecting sill to tripartite sashes of 8, 12 and 8 panes beneath plain frieze and cornice. lst floor: projecting sills to large sashes with glazing bars beneath rubbed-brick flat arches. 2nd floor: short 6-pane sashes in similar surrounds. Hipped roof with 2 brick stacks at each end. Interior: plain wooden staircase with square baluster rods and wreathed handrail; reeded doorcases with corner rosettes. Fireplace in ground-floor room on right has Neoclassical wooden surround, cast-iron hearth curb and cast-iron fireback with Egyptian motifs. Other cast-iron fire-baskets in lst-floor rooms, one with Delft-tiled hearth.
