House, now shops and offices. Mid C18 with early C19 alterations and minor later
alterations. Stucco with painted stone dressings and tarred slate roof. Five
bays and three storeys, two room central entrance hall plan. Tall ground floor
with horizontal banded rustication and deep plinth. Four narrowing steps up to
central door, with plain wreathed railing to either side. C20 glazed door below
6-pane overlight beneath Tuscan porch with plain frieze to the entablature and wide
moulded cornice. To either side there are large recessed C20 small pane, tripartite
bow windows on bowed plinths. Wide plain first-floor sill band and five full-height
first-floor 18-pane sashes, with full-width bracketed iron balcony. This has Greek
key frieze to base, scrolled frieze to top and honeysuckle and interlace panels
between, it is stepped forward to centre over the porch. Above again five small
6-pane sashes with projecting sills. Dentilled cornice and blocking course, stone
coped gables on moulded stone kneelers with original hopper heads below, and large
brick end stacks. Interior has narrow central hall with bracketed and egg and dart
cornice, moulded round arch through to rear staircase hall with fine open well
open-string staircase through 3 floors; 2, square knopped, column on vase balusters
per tread, moulded ramped and wreathed handrail and profiled cheekpieces. Round-
arched staircase window to landing and bracketed, egg and dart cornice to top
landing. Ground and first-floor rooms with dentilled and egg and dart cornices.
