Farmhouse. C14, remodelled during C16 with further C17 alterations and
additions, C20 restoration and alterations. Sandstone rubble with part
hipped stone slate and C20 tiled roofs. Central hall range aligned east/
west with inserted axial stack and cross-wings at either end, these have
been extended forwards to south and to west and east; further stacks to
cross-wings; entrance through south front of west cross-wing. Two storeys
and attics, with single storey and attic to hall range, basement below
west wing; south front: west cross-wing to left, central flat-roofed C20
dormer window, single light to right of centre on first floor, cambered
head to doorway further to right; central recessed hall range with two
2-light casement windows, left-hand window in blocked doorway; east cross-
wing to right with one 2-light casement window to left on upper floor,
3-light casement window below with cambered head, to left of lean-to
projection with 2-light window. North front of hall range has transomed
window with two trefoil-headed lights. Interior of hall range with
inserted floor removed during C20 restoration, three largely complete
cruck trusses, arch-braced collar to central truss with moulded members,
large open fireplace to stack which backs against the tie-beam which formed
upper rail of screens partition, two ogee-headed doorheads are clearly
visible toward centre of beam, stone winder staircase in east cross-wing.
Most of the wooden mullioned windows mentioned by RCHM have now been
replaced with one remaining on east side of east cross-wing. (RCHM, Vol I,
