Union Baptist Chapel. 1822. Colourwashed brick, hipped slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2-storey 3-bay front. Central double doors beneath 6-vaned fanlight. To either side is one fixed window with 16 panes beneath bottom-hung arched light repeating fanlight design. 3 identical first-floor windows. North and south returns with three similar windows at upper level. INTERIOR: plain benches. Arcaded pulpit at west end incorporating cathedra chair beneath pediment. Panelled gallery at east end reached by winder staircase, in which are a set of benches and a manual Groves organ. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings enclose forecourt on line with street. They consist of pair of central brick piers and cast-iron railings with Greek cross finials. Wrought-iron gate of similar design.
