Garden wall formerly to Bagshaw Hall (qv). C17, altered C19.
Coursed sandstone. Forms boundary to rectangular enclosure
approximately 50mx40m on south side of Bagshaw Hill opposite
Bagshaw Hall; the enclosure is subdivided by a north-south
retaining wall with lower ground to east.
Roadside section: over 2m in height with large quoins at west
end and 2-course triangular copings; later pedestrian opening
and a C17 quoined and chamfered gateway with cross-boarded oak
doors beneath stone lintel. East end of roadside wall altered
to make C20 vehicle entrance.
On south side of the enclosure the C17 wall ramps down with
falling ground and is essentially complete. On west side the
wall retains higher ground but its south end has been broken
through and altered.
On the east side of the enclosure the wall is of later date,
and of rubble limestone construction.
Area within the walls now occupied by Greenbanks, Hallcroft
and The Bungalow, which are not included.
