Supporting structure to above pavement and road (the surface of which not of special interest), including promenade and sun terrace. 1935, by J. Wibberley, Plymouth City architect and engineer; built by Nut tall and Sons, and John Mowlem and Company. Reinforced concrete construction. A long double-curved promenade with sun terraces below, and a cantilevered canopy above supporting the road [Hoe Road]. The road above the canopy is supported on a series of piers with cantilevers to the canopy soffit. The terrace, promenade and road have tubular stee.l and iron railings. On the back wall under the promenade canopy there is a moulded relief map of Plymouth and the surrounding areas. Known as the Tinside Colonnade, it was constructed as part of the Lido [listed 1998], which was the culmination of a protracted programme of improving the bathing facilities in Plymouth.
