House, now restaurant. Late C18 or early C19. Brick in Flemish
bond; stucco to gable on right return. Gambrel roof of tile.
2 storeys and dormer over basement. One-window range. Early
C19 shop front to ground floor: Tuscan pilasters frame a
rectangular bay with entrance to left party wall, both capped
by entablature with broad projecting cornice. All openings are
flat arched. First-floor window has 8 x 8 sashes of an early
C19 design. Brick dentil cornice to shallow, guttered eaves.
Single dormer to roof.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Nos 26-31 and 33-36 East Street (qv) face onto what is, in
effect, a small square, which is formed by the widening of
East Street at its northern end. Legend has it that this whole
group was built on the site of a small wharf on an inlet of
the sea.
