ORWELL HIGH STREET TL 3650 (South side) 14/254 No. 10, 12 GV II
Cottage originally a row. Of two main building periods C18 and C19. Timber framed, plaster rendered and long straw thatch. Rebuilt ridge stack originally of two flues. Two bays extended at rear and west end. One storey and attic. One gable dormer. Two doorways, and a C19 horizontal sliding sash at ground floor. At west end an addition of mid C19. Clay bat with white brick front wall and slate roof. Two storeys. Two recessed, twelve pane hung sashes at first floor. At rear a C19 timber framed weatherboarded and rendered addition. Thatched. One bay. Interior: C18 red brick hearth. Upwdrd bracing to main posts of wall frame. The end bay to the east may be a shop addition of the C19. At first floor the chamber over the C18 bay has raised and fielded panelling to one wall. In two heights with dado.
