Listing Text

1474/1519. Two angle fragments of 4-storey L-plan tower house
58'8" x 44', vaulted at ground and 1st floors; pinned boulder
rubble sandstone dressings, marked batter, wall intaken over
hall vault. Damaged 1690, ruinous from 1733 large part of
vault fell 1826 etc.

Built by William de Crawford who held the barony 1474-1519.
Formerly surrounded by a fosse with causeway and drawbridge
(see O.S.A.). The illustrations in Giles, Buchan Field Club
and C & D Arch, all show more than exists now.
