Cross Hands Post

A Grade II Listed Building in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire

Fingerpost - known as Joseph Izod's Post or Cross Hands Post - on the A44 near Chipping Campden

Uploader's Comments

Joseph Izod's Post - erected by Joseph Izod in 1669, this fingerpost is thought to be the earliest known in England, but the post seen here on the A44 is a replica. The original structure was removed by the County Council and placed for safe keeping in the care of a local history group.
The fingers are set on high to be readily seen by the stage-coach drivers of the day.
