Rebuilt after fire of 1736. 'L'-plan. Two storey stone house with a diapered brick front (and later repairs). The eaves are higher than those of No 38 adjoining, but the ridge of the steep old tiled roof is in line with that of No 38. Brick verge and kneelers to south-west. Brick chimney stacks. Two hipped dormers, two windows to both floors, late bay to right of entrance. Glazing bar sashes in other windows in reveals with cambered heads and painted cills. Plain wooden doorcase with open pertinent hood on cut brackets. Six panel door - two glazed in centre, the rest fielded. Sundial in centre of first floor - wooden with moulded frame. Inscribed 'W(illiam) M(ead) Tempus et ignis omnia perdunt Apr. 1739. H. A. Fecit." two storey brick and stone tiled outbuildings to the reef form a small courtyard entered from Mill Lane.

Nos 36 to 40 (even) Church Street form a group with Stratford House, Mill Lane and all the listed buildings in the Market Square.
