Originally one farmhouse, owned by the Henniker-Major family and rented out as a farm holding with a barn next door (now a home), as part of their estate, the property was sold to 2 sisters who each lived in one-half of the building. On their death, a nephew inherited both properties, living in 183 and renting out 184. At the time there was no running water and an outhouse for a toilet. Water came from a borehole further down the street, using a hand pump. On his death, the properties were left to a relative, who sold 183 to a couple who renovated it, and 184 was eventually sold to the sitting tenants. The garden allotment section of 183, around 1/2 an acre was left to the children of the couple living in 184, and was reclaimed by nature's trees and brambles.
The front of the house of 184, was changed when the thatching was redone in 2012, inconsistent with the previous thatching and incongruent to that of 183, compromising the integrity of the building as a whole
