8/166 The Tower House


Corner House. C18, modified C20. Local stone rubble; hipped Welsh slate roof; brick chimney stacks. 3 storeys, one
bay to Quaperlake Street, 4-bays to Coombe Street. Modern hardwood door and small-pane shop windows to ground floor
front, above a 12-pane sash window in plain surround, with traces of earlier blocked windows on either side; above
again a 16-pane casement with louvred shutters. On side elevation plain boarded door to bay 1, with C20 hardwood
windows to remaining lower bays; to first floor two 16-pane sash windows and then two 20-pane; to second floor 12-pane
sashes to all except bay 1. Wrought iron bracket and hanging sign over main door, date uncertain. On site of former
Maypole Inn, parts of which may be incorporated.
