1/63 The Round House


Cottage, built in Gothic style as a lodge to Ixworth Abbey. Early C19. Single
storey, oval plan. Timber-framed and roughcast. Conical thatched roof, with
overhanging eaves supported on a ring of posts. Central chimney-stack: ornate
moulded gault brick chimney. Casements with pointed arched heads, transomes,
and diamond-leaded panes: some painted window to watch. Door with vertical
planking and applied pilaster strips. Small gabled projection on right with 2
2-light Gothic casements.
