Largely rebuilt early C16, in red brick. West tower has diapering in flared
headers, diagonal stone dressed buttresses, embattled parapets and polygonal
staircase tower. West window has 4 centred head and intersecting tracery.
Embattled south aisle, south porch and south chancel porch. Windows are all
4 centred heads in brick. East window to Church in stone, of 5 trefoiled ogee
and transomed lights with vertical tracery in a four centred head. East gable
has crow stepped parapet. Nave has north arcade 2 bays with 4 centred arches
of 3 moulded orders, labels and shield stop. Upper door to rood loft remains
with 4 centred head. At west end of north aisle is a priests chamber, with
remains of fireplace and octagonal chimney stack. South porch to nave has a
moulded and 4 centred outer arch of brick, with double chamfered responds, having
moulded capitals and bases. Niche with coved soffit over. Side walls have
windows of 3 transomed and 4 centred lights with moulded jowls and label. Porch
roof in 5 cants. Original south door of nailed cross boards. Nave roof is
of 7 cants with 4 commons per bay, the principal frames are heavily moulded.
Heavy tie beams. Chancel roof in 7 cants, with inclined ashlars, side purlins
above the common collars and compassed wind braces that rise to apexes of principal
rafters. Many good internal features. C15 rood screen with ogee arches. C14.
alabaster tomb with effigy in armour, with bascinet. Tomb to Henry Lord Marney
1523, with recumbent effigy. North wall of nave, has large painted figure of
St Christopher bearing Christ and holding a ragged staff. Landscape background,
presumed early Cl6.
