Rococo monument to Edward Smith, who went to Rugby School and Cambridge University then achieved LLD (Dr of Law) at Magdalen College, Oxford University. -He changed Time for Eternity 15th Feb 1768 aged 57-. Coloured marbles. Inscribed sarcophagus with crested apron and with urn above, all set on an obelisk back panel. The Arms are Smith quartered with Heriz, 1 and 4 Gules, on a chevron argent, three crosses patee fichee sable, between as many bezants. 2 and 3 Azure, between a fess argent, three urcheons (hedgehogs)or. Inescutcheon (small inner shield) quartered 1 and 4 Or three gauntlets sinister couped sable (for his 1st wife Margaret, daughter of Edward Horsman of Stretton, Rutland), 2 and 3 Or, on a pile vert, three garbs (sheaves) of the field.
